Former NLD minister included in junta’s Myanmar New Year amnesty

Myanmar’s military junta released former minister for Planning and Finance Kyaw Win together with 3,015 inmates released in their amnesty on 17 April, Myanmar’s New Year Day.

The former minister of the National League for Democracy (NLD) government was arrested on 4 February 2021 from his residence in Naypyitaw after the military coup, and he was sentenced to three years under State Secrets Law Section 31/C at the special court in the capital.

During the term of the NLD government, he was investigated Anti-Corruption Commission of Myanmar in May 2018 for allegedly taking bribes. And then he resigned from his position in the same month.

However, the commission did not bring charges against him as they did not find solid evidence of corruption against the minister under the under the anti-corruption Law.
