Forty Myanmar monks and nuns have reportedly died of COVID-19

The toll of those who have died of COVID-19 or with the virus in Myanmar continues to increase with a number of monks and nuns who have reportedly fallen victim, according to a recent report by DVB.

About 2,630 monks in Yangon have been infected with COVID-19 and a total of 40 monks and nuns died, according to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture.

As of December 19, the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS) recorded a total of 115,187 people who have tested positive. The death toll stood at 2,424.

The spokesperson for the ministry has previously reported that as much of the 90% of the deaths occurred in people with other medical conditions and diseases, leaving 10% of the total dying directly from COVID-19.

More than 150 people in Naypyidaw Union Territory tested positive for COVID-19 in December, as of the statement of Naypyidaw Council.
