Four administrators' houses in Tantway Township, Yangon targeted as a warning

Urban resistance groups set off small explosions outside the houses of four junta administration officials in four wards in Twantway Township in the southern Yangon Region, on 1 July.

According to a statement by the Urban Guerrilla Force (Twantay) it carried out the bombings with other allied resistance groups. They set off small bombs outside the houses of four junta administrators, including ward administrators and 100 household heads (also called street heads), as a warning to them.

An Urban Guerrilla Force (Twantay) member said: 'We will target [the junta’s] administrators and members. We have warned them several times. In addition to non-compliance, they [the junta’s administrators] were cooperating with the junta’s military to badly oppress civilians so we took action. As we are doing this [carefully] step-by-step, there have not yet been any casualties yet.”

The targeted houses belonged to the junta-appointed officials Nya Aung Naing Oo the administrator for Shwe San Taw Ward, Twantay Township; Aung Myint Tun, the head of 100-household in Oh-Bo ward; Htin Kyaw the administrator for Zay Thit ward; and Tin Tun an official for the eastern Oh-Bo Ward), according to the guerrilla groups who carried out the attacks.

The Urban Guerrilla Force (Twantay) member explained that because the explosions were just warnings there were no civilian casualties or property damage. But, if the administrators do not heed the warnings and stop oppressing civilians, there will be further attacks by the guerrilla groups.

He also added: 'We are prepared to continue with our attacks against military-related people. We are going to take further actions.'

Since the attacks the junta has carried out several inspections in Twantay Township.

The Urban Guerrilla Force (Twantay) also urged people to support urban-based resistance groups.

Previously, in June, another Twantay-based guerrilla group dissolved itself due to a lack of funding
and the arrest of several of its members.
