Four people in a group of six civilians trying to flee fighting in Mandalay Region’s Ngazun Township were shot dead by a junta military column they encountered on 14 August.

The incident happened near Ywar Thar Lay village in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region.

A resident of Myinmu Township said: “People seek shelter in Myinmu Township due to the daily military operations conducted by the military council in the Ngazun Township. Tragically, six individuals from Ngazun Township encountered troops from the State Administration Council [SAC] and were shot. Among them, four lost their lives, while the remaining two sustained injuries.”

They explained that the six people fleeing Myinmu were shot by a junta troop that they encountered after crossing the Ayeyarwady River into Ngazun Township.

A force of 150 junta soldiers stationed in the Myo Thar Industrial Zone and a monastery in Thar Kyin Kyay village in Ngazun Township has caused over 2,500 people to flee from Ngazun Township.
