Four junta administrators killed in attack in Yangon's Twante Township

Twante Urban Guerrilla Force attacked a car carrying administrators from Zee Phyu Kone Village killing four administrators, their driver and one other person close to Zee Phyu Kone Village in Yangon Region's Twante Township on 22 August.

Those killed were the administrator of Zee Phyu Kone Village, Khin Nyunt; a 100 household administrator, Aye Myint; and the 10-household administrators Than Htwe (a.k.a Bay Dar) and Win Zaw (a.k.a Moe Hti). Also killed in the car were Bo Bo, an alleged junta supporter and their driver.

The 10-household administrator San Lwan (a.k.a Japan Kaut) was seriously injured and was the only person to survive the attack. All the victims were from Zee Phyu Kone Village and worked for the junta administration.

An official from Twante Urban Guerrilla Force said: "We had to take action against them because they were arresting innocent villagers. They were all junta-appointed administrators in Zee Phyu Kone Village. There are still other notorious 100-household and 10-household administrators and Military Council supporters left in the village. We hope that this attack will stop the other administrators from behaving violently. If it doesn't, we will inevitably have to take more action."

After the attack, large numbers of junta troops conducted checks at the gates of Twante Township and patrolled the city in unmarked cars. Despite this the members of Twante Urban Guerrilla Force who carried out the attack were able to escape without being noticed or suffering any casualties.

According to local news sources from Twante, junta troops are actively looking for and arresting anti-coup activists and underground revolutionaries in Twante Township and the surrounding areas.
