Grenade attack on Shwe Nyaung police station in Shan State

The Shwe Nyaung Township People Defense Force (PDF) injured two policemen in a grenade attack on Shwe Nyaung local police station in Shan State, at about 3:00 p.m. on 7 December.

The police station is on the Taunggyi-Kalaw highway in Shwe Nyaung Township.

An official from Shwe Nyaung Township PDF said: “At around 3:00 p.m., we launched an attack with an improvised grenade. We threw the grenade into the station. We learned that two policemen were injured, and that some of the buildings inside the police station compound were also damaged. We carried out the attack in retaliation for police officers from Shwe Nyaung local police station killing two local youths for no reason.”

Following the attack, the police and junta soldiers went over CCTV footage from around the police station and searched the neighbourhood.

Four military vehicles full of soldiers also entered and searched several villages in Shwe Nyaung Township, according to locals.

A Shwe Nyaung Township PDF official said: “I'd like to remind the people of southern Shan State that the coup is not yet over. Furthermore, I request that people avoid anything related to the military junta. If they do not comply with our request to stay away from the junta we will not be held liable if they are killed in future attacks.”

This is the second time this year that the Shwe Nyaung local police station has been attacked. In March there was an explosion at the police station.
