A report has come in of an attack on the house of a health ministry employee in Mindat in which the employee was injured, his son killed and the house set on fire.

The incident happened on Thursday in Mindat which has seen conflicts recently.

Gunmen reportedly entered the house. The son reportedly died on the spot because of gunshot wounds to the abdomen, and the father was shot in the neck and wounded.

A fire broke out in the house on the ring road in Bawa Thit Ward, Mindat Township, Chin State.

The father, an employee of the Ministry of Health and Sports, was taken to Mandalay Hospital at around 1 pm on Thursday night and his son's body was cremated at around 9 am on Friday.

Neighbors said the fire burned until early in the morning due to the distance from Mindat fire station, the announcement of curfew and the shortage of firefighters.

A neighbour said: “I heard four gunshots at around 11 o'clock. After hearing about 10 gunshots, the fire started. Two motorcycles were parked in the compound. It must have been an explosion."

"The house that caught fire is owned by a clerk of the health department. And he did not join the Civil Disobedience Movement as a non-CDM. I don't know which group is the culprit for this incident," the neighbour said

Clashes between Military Council’s troops and Chinland Defence Force (CDF) recently broke out again in Mindat township, and the incident took place when military council troops were stationed throughout Mindat township.
