Intense fighting breaks out in the villages of Tanintharyi Region

Intense fighting broke out last week in villages in Pulaw Township, Myeik District in Tanintharyi region.

The fighting started on 8 February and on 9 February Myanmar junta forces torched a village names To, according to residents and local resistance forces.

Fighting between the Myanmar junta forces and resistance forces started on 8 February in villages named To, PiTak, Mya Daung, Pawutkone and Min Htein, according to a PDF fighter.

A spokesperson of 1st Battalion of Myeik district, a PDF group, said, "Both sides took injuries. Junta forces made violations by setting fire to villages.

He noted the junta forces were 100 men strong and due to this and the use of heavy artillery, seven PDF members were injured and two are in a critical condition.

Although some villagers were arrested, they were released when the junta troops retreated.

It is unclear at this stage how many houses were burnt down by the junta forces.
