An “International Conference for Myanmar Spring Revolution” was held in Buffalo, the second largest city in the USA’s New York State on 26 and 27 August.

The event was jointly organized by Burmese political activists in the United States, Canada and European countries.

The meeting was also joined by the Chairman of the Committee Representing the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) Aung Kyi Nyunt, representatives of the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), senior officials of the National Unity Government (NUG), representatives of the National League for Democracy (NLD), ethnic groups, civil society organizations, experts, representatives of the people’s defence forces and exiled political activists.

Ko Ko Lay, the spokesperson of the event’s organizing committee, said: “We are not establishing one more political organisation, but are gathering the strength of our people. We will implement our plans in three steps. We will issue public statements in the first step. The second step will include sending opening letters to the NUG, CRPH, NUCC and EROs to suggest their strength and weak points in political and military affairs. In the third step, we will implement our decisions, through holding protests, expanding our networks, conducting diplomatic campaigns and providing support to the frontlines.”

Htin Lin Aung, the union minister for Information and Technology of the NUG, said at the event that the discussions of stakeholders at the meeting should be implemented seriously.

“Relevant stakeholders from various generations, including the 88 Generation, presented their ideas and experiences on the situation on the ground with regard to political, military and financial issues, and how to take action against the junta in these sectors. We should implement their suggestions,” he said.

The event was one of many that have been held around the world over the last two years in the wake of the 2021 military coup that ousted the NLD-led civilian government led by Aung San Suu Kyi.
