Junta artillery kills two and seriously injures eight in Rakhine's Mrauk-U Township

A woman and a child were killed and eight others were seriously injured when junta troops fired artillery into Kin Seik village in Rakhine State's Mrauk-U Township, at around 5:00 pm on 28 August.

The wife of the Kin Seik village administrator explained that the 377th Light Infantry Battalion based in the Mrauk-U Township had started firing heavy artillery into the village for no reason at about 3:00 p.m. on 28 August. The dead and injured were hit when they were trying to flee the village

She said: "We also had to run away because of the junta artillery fire. We have come here to another village for safety. We heard that an old woman and a young boy died. There are lots of injured people. I don't yet know the name of the dead people.”

The injured were sent to Mrauk-U Township Hospital where they are receiving medical treatment.

There are more than 200 houses in Kin Seik Village and shells landed on some of the houses and a monastery.

Before the shelling, at noon on 28 August there had been fierce fighting between junta troops and the Arakan Army (AA) near to Kin Seik and Latkar villages in Mrauk-U Township.
