Junta convoy hit with landmines in Mandalay’s Thabeikkyin Township

At 6:30 am on 28 December, the People's Defense Forces (Tagaung) detonated five mines targeting a Military Council's convoy between Taungtalone and Inpyan villages in Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region.

The convoy included three six-wheeler and one 12-wheeler vehicles from the 88th Division of the Military Council.

"I believe the 12-wheeler vehicle was made of thick steel and was bulletproof. The mine did not detonate. However, one of the 6-wheeler vehicle was struck. I saw many soldiers die. Our members safely retreated,” an official from People’s Defense Forces (Tagaung) said.

After being hit by the landmines, soldiers from the Military Council's convoy used heavy and small firearms fire for nearly 30 minutes, but members of the People's Defense Forces (Tagaung) were able to withdraw unharmed, according to their report.

According to the People's Defense Forces (Tagaung), approximately 20 soldiers died and were buried in Latpankone village, Thabeikkyin Township.
