Junta opens reception centres for people who previously opposed or fled junta rule

The junta is opening reception centres for Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) participants and People's Defence Force (PDF) members who want to stop their anti-junta activities, and students and youths who fled junta rule and went to liberated areas or abroad.

A statement about the opening of the reception centres was published in the junta-aligned Mirror Daily local newspaper this week on 29 June.

It said that the reception centres will be set up in border areas. It also said that people who contact the centres would have their safety guaranteed and would be allowed to live peacefully in accordance with the junta's laws, rules and regulations.

The statement followed a 12 June announcement urging armed guerrillas and People's Defence Force (PDF) members to surrender their weapons and return to society.
