Junta sets fire to houses and clinic in Sagaing's Banmauk Township

A midwife's clinic and houses were set on fire by junta troops in Banmauk Township, in Sagaing Region's Katha District, according to a liaison officer from the Banmauk Revolution (BR).

On 27 June, junta troops opened fire and set fire to houses in Kyauk Ai village, Banmauk Township.

They also arrested 30 villagers from Kyauk Ai Village and detained them at the monastery.

Captain Tokyo the BR communications officer said: 'The junta set fire to two houses in Kyauk Ai Village. Only men have been arrested. I can't say why they [the junta soldiers] have only arrested men. I think maybe [they want to use them] as human shields in battles with People's Defence Forces (PDFs). I heard that the midwife's clinic in Banmauk Township was also set on fire.'

Three military columns of over 300 junta soldiers have entered Banmauk Township in recent days.

Kyauk Ai is a village of 41 households about 10 miles from Banmauk Town.
