The Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (1) has issued a statement urging members of the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF) and the People's Militia who work for the military regime in Hpa-an township, Thaton district, Karen State to resign as soon as possible.

The executive committee of KNU Brigade 1 in Hpa-an township issued the warning letter on 8 February. The statement also warned against cooperating with military regime troops.

KNU Brigade 1 also demanded that family members living in the BGF camp leave the camp. In addition, the KNU issued a statement urging civil servants working under the military regime in Hpa-an township to resign.

A warning letter was also issued on 30 January urging all staff in departments under the military regime in Hpapun Township, which is under the control of the KNU Brigade 5, to resign within 10 days.

Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 5 stormed and set fire to Karen BGF outpost No. 1014 in Mae Pali village, Hpapun district on 16 January.

The KNU attacked and occupied a BGF outpost in Mae Pali Village a few days after KNLA Brigade (5) issued a final warning on 15 January saying that the KNLA do not want to attack the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF) in Hpapun district because they all are Karen people, but that they will fight with them if the BGF continues supporting the military regime.
