A 30-year old man suffered life threatening injuries when he was electrocuted trying to steal electrical cables from a transformer in Mandalay.

The incident happened at the corner of Theik Pan Road and 68th Street in Mandalay City’s Chanmyathazi Township in the early morning of 25 September.

“He received an electric shock while trying to steal wire. Although he did not die on the spot he faces life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the hospital after we requested help from the Mya Yee Nanda social rescue team," said a local resident.

When he was electrocuted the man suffered serious injuries to his back, chest and waist. After receiving a call from nearby residents the Mya Yee Nanda social rescue team took him to the hospital, according to another local.

Locals have suggested that if the man recovers he will be charged with theft under Section 379 of Myanmar law.
