Mandalay Budget Department Office hit by grenade attack

The junta Budget Department Office in Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay City was hit by a grenade attack at about 10:00 a.m. on 21 August.

The attack, on the office on the corner of 68th Street and Tatepan Street, was carried out by the No More Dictatorship People Defense Force (NMD).

An NMD representative said: “We targeted and attacked that office because it is an office that mainly works to operate the Military Council's financial policy. There were people in the office at the time of the attack. A car was hit and there were possibly injuries.”

The grenade bounced off a glass window and exploded between the building and a parked car. After the explosion junta troops and two vehicles from a charitable organisation arrived and started carrying out investigations in the area, according to Mandalay residents.

One of the residents, who did not want to give their name for security reasons, said: “There have been ambulances arriving and departing, suggesting that there are possibly injuries. That office is known to limit external visitors, so there were only employees there.”

The NMD carried out seven attacks on the junta in Mandalay from 1 to 21 August.
