An education programme of the public administrative body in Mindat Township, Chin State, is being conducted for 3,343 displaced children in more than 80 villages as they have lost their schooling after the military coup.

A total of 433 teachers, including graduate educators who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and pre-university students, were trained by the education department of Mindat’s public administrative body, are now teaching the children.

“Children have been studying their lessons since three weeks ago. More than 100 teachers have been trained in four groups until now. More teacher training courses will be carried out,” said Salai Yaw Man, the spokesperson of Mindat’s public administrative body.

He added that the education opportunity will help the physical and mental development of the internally displaced children.

“Children could forget about the existing upset while they are enjoying school lessons and playing with their friends. It would be helpful for the cognitive development of the children.”

Moreover, the Mindat Emergency Response Team is supporting education activities for the displaced children who fled to the Yaw area.

“We are also carrying out education programmes for the children only in Kyaukhtu town of Yaw area, while we cannot work for the children in Hteelin and Gangaw towns of this area,” said a member of Mindat Emergency Response Team.

There are around 10,000 IDPs in the villages of Mindat Township.

Meanwhile, about 1,000 people have fled to other areas and an estimated 2,000 persons are taking shelter in Yaw area as they fear junta troops.
