Myanmar air force base in Yangon hit by rocket fire

The Myanmar air force headquarters in Mingalardon Township in Yangon were hit by rockets around 9:00 pm on 16 December.

“The target was the officers’ (quarters), we were the witness there. One free-flight rocket landed at the air force base while the other landed west of Waybagi station. There are surely casualties. Ambulances were at scene,'' a witness said.

Loud bangs were heard in North Oakkalapa, Shwe Paukan and Mingalardon Townships and witness said there were five explosions and fires inside the air force base.

A resident of Mingalardon township said the explosions occurred inside the air force base, and that witnesses saw fires at the base.

Another witness said ambulances arrived at the scene, followed by government vehicles and that security had been tightened in the area.

Despite the fact that Yangon Urban Guerrilla forces claimed responsibility for the attack, Mizzima has been unable to independently confirm it.
