Some businesses have donated up to $4 million to buy the COVID-19 vaccine. Chit Khaing, chairman of the Eden Business Group, donated US$1.5 million as a birthday gift after the government announced that donations could be made to buy the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Irrawaddy Foundation, founded by Zaw Zaw of Max Myanmar Group, donated US$1.5 million which will be equal in value to kyat 2 billion. Ko Ko Gyi's Capital Diamond Star Group donated US$1 million.

For this procurement programme, local and foreign donors want to donate the reason being that Daw Khin Kyi Foundation has set up an account with an initial deposit of 100 million kyat and will transfer it to the government whenever the donation reaches 100,000,000 kyat, the Foundation's Operations Manager Tun Hla Soe told Mizzima.

“Donors kept asking us, can they donate for COVID-19 vaccine? We are afraid of queuing at the Myanmar Economic Bank. People can donate from online to the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation. There are local and foreign donors, even from Singapore as well. Donations money will also be announced,” he said.

Wunna Shwe, a member of the Islamic Religious Affairs Council, also said that the group would donate 50,000,000 kyat to buy protective equipment and urged Muslims to donate as much as they can.
