Myanmar junta army camp raided in Tanintharyi Region

People’s Defence Forces raided a junta military camp on a hill overlooking the Myeik to Dawei Road in Tanintharyi Region’s Thetyatchaung Township on the morning of 14 December.

PDFs based in Thetyatchaung raided the camp, which was near to Paedat Village, at 5:30 a.m. on 14 December and the two sides exchanged fire for 30 minutes.

A Paedat villager said: “We heard gunfire in the early morning. The local villagers were scared when they heard the gunfire and they then fled.

An unnamed PDF fighter involved in the attack said: "Soldiers from the Military Council fled the camp. That's how we were able to take control of the camp after the attack.”

According to a member of a Thetyatchaung-based PDF involved in the attack, they seized one AK-47, two A1 machine guns, one carbine rifle, and other military equipment from the junta camp.

According to local news sources, many military council soldiers were killed in the battle, but Mizzima has been unable to confirm this and is still investigating the exact number of deaths
