Civilians have been killed and injured by the Myanmar junta in the ongoing response to the resistance’s Operation 1027.

On 1 November at night, in Hsenwi Town, Northern Shan State, four residents lost their lives due to indiscriminate heavy ammunition fired by the military junta.

Among the victims were Daw Nan Saw, a 60-year-old woman, and her daughter, Ma Nan Aye Hlaing, aged 30. They were inside their homes in the 4th Quarter along the Hsenwi-Kunlong Road and were killed on the spot by the heavy ammunition, locals said.

Two men, U Sai Soe and another resident from Namsalat Village-Tract, Hsenwi, lost their lives due to artillery fire.

Airstrikes conducted by the junta at 3:30 am on 2 November, resulted in the destruction of approximately seven houses in Sel-Au Village, Hsenwi Town, according to a local man assisting the displaced in Hsenwi.

Residents have reported hearing repeated gunfire and artillery shelling at intervals of approximately 15 to 30 minutes, continuing until well into the afternoon on 3 November in Hsenwi Town.

Residents have stated that there are more than 50,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs), which include women, elderly, and children, currently seeking shelter in 13 monasteries in Hsenwi Town.

Internally displaced persons (IDPs) are facing challenges such as transportation and internet outages, requiring humanitarian assistance. With no means to escape to nearby cities, the residents are relying on collective support for food and accommodation, as mentioned by a volunteer assisting the displaced population in Hsenwi.

"We are unable to travel to other cities due to the ongoing battles. Transportation is severely hindered. We cannot reach either Laukkai or Muse. The streets have been obstructed by large ditches created with bulldozers, and bridges have been destroyed. With no goods coming into the town, we are concerned that we might soon experience shortages of food," the volunteer said.

The Northern Alliances, which include the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), and Arakan Army (AA), initiated Operation 1027 on 27 October. This operation involved attacks on the military junta forces, and the conflict is still ongoing in the Northern Shan State area.
