Myanmar junta informer shot dead in Ayeyarwaddy’s Hinthada Township

Kyaw Lwin, an informer who has been working for the Military Council in Hinthada Township in the Ayeyarwaddy Region, was shot six times on 1 January at 8:30 am.

Kyaw Lwin lived in Ta Loke Htaw Township, Hinthada Township, and was driving a motorcycle when he was shot at close range by an unknown gunman driving a motorcycle near Inkhawar Village.

According to the residents, he was shot because he kept sending information about local resistance forces, CDM staff, and local donors to the Military Council and police in Hinthada Township.

"He was on the wanted list issued by the township's resistance forces. He was undoubtedly an informant. At first, he pretended to do so for human rights purposes, but after the coup, he had good contacts with the Military Council and threatened civilians," said a resident.

According to sources, after Kyaw Lwin was shot, Military Council troops and police arrived on the scene and conducted an investigation.

It has not yet been revealed which group carried out the shooting.

At the time of reporting, it was unknown whether any arrests had been made in connection with the incident, and also Military Council troops and police are conducting a thorough search of the townships of Hinthada, Talokehtaw, and Laymyatnar in Ayeyarwaddy Region.

Ward and village administrators as well as informants working for the Military Council, have been killed for collaborating with the regime. Ward and village administrators, as well as informants who endanger civilians, have been targeted by local defense forces and guerrilla forces since the coup.

Since the Myanmar military's February 1 coup, 700 junta informants have been killed or injured, according to the regime-controlled media.
