Myanmar junta launches airstrike on gold mines along Ayeyarwady River

Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Information Department reported that the air force of Military Council sent fighter jets and attack helicopters in an airstrike on gold mines along the Ayeyarwady River.

A junta fighter jet and two attack helicopters came and attacked with bombs and machine guns gold mining rafts moored on the east bank of the Ayeyarwady River in Nyaungbinthar village on 3 January in the evening, according to a news report.

This Nyaungbinthar village is in the Bamao Township.

In this airstrike a gold miner aged 22 was killed and four others were wounded, the news report added.

Among the wounded people, two are women and they are now reportedly taking treatment in a hospital.

In an earlier incident, on 30 December, two fighter jets from Myitkyina airbase, attacked and bombed a gold mine area and mining rafts in Myazedi, Thaphanbin, destroying some rafts.
