Myanmar junta seals off 678 homes of pro-democracy activists since coup: AAPP

The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) has stated that 678 homes of pro-democracy activists had been sealed off by the Military regime since the February 2021 coup.

Since the coup, if the junta was unable to trace and arrest the pro-democracy activisst, protesters, members of parliaments, and others involved in the revolution then they sealed off their houses instead.

“Our houses are sealed off as they cannot locate us. There is nothing else to say,” one of the people whose house was sealed says. The AAPP has logged a total of 678 homes up until 30 June this year.

What often happens is junta troops or police arbitrarily arrest unrelated people if they can’t locate their target and seal off the houses of their target.

Since the 1 February 2021 of the military coup until 13 July 2022, 11,547 people have been arrested and 1,312 of them have been sentenced to prison. Those arrested include minors. In addition, 2,081 people were killed by the junta troops in that time period. Murders are committed on a daily basis, according to AAPP.
