Myanmar junta troops forget grenades after setting village on fire

The Chaung U People’s Defense Force (CHU PDF), based in Chaung U Township, Sagaing Region announced that it had seized thirteen 40-mm grenades from the junta army.

According to a CHU PDF press officer, at 9:40 a.m. on 15 October combined defence forces attacked a junta military column with mines near the village of Ma Htithar in Sagaing’s Chaung U Township. At noon the junta column entered Ma Htithar and started setting fires.

In the evening they entered nearby Ngar Lone Tin Village and set 150 houses on fire.

But, when the junta left Ngar Lone Tin Village they left behind thirteen 40mm grenades, each worth 100,000 kyats.

The CHU PDF press officer said: “When the Military Council's column left Ngar Lone Tin Village, people were not permitted to enter for their safety. We entered first to make sure the area was safe. We discovered the 40-mm grenades that the junta troops had left in the village.”

The junta column is now stationed in Aung Chan Thar Village in the northern part of Chaung U Township, according to local reports.

On 15 October, a column of junta troops set fire to several villages in Chaung U Township, including the villages of Hman Cho, Ngar Lone Tin, Ma Hti Thar and Sin Myay. This has caused 8,000 people to flee from seven villages in Chaung U Township.
