Myanmar junta’s Deputy Prime Minister Soe Htut undergoes surgery for colon cancer

Lieutenant General Soe Htut, who is the Myanmar junta’s Deputy Prime Minister and also Home Affairs Minister, was recently treated for colon cancer, according to sources in Naypyitaw. 

Reportedly the 62-year-old underwent surgery in Singapore for colon cancer and returned to Yangon on 5 April, according to the sources. 

His last visit to the office before receiving medical treatment was on 24 March at the Home Affairs Ministry in Naypyitaw, where he met with the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Chen Hai. 

Till now, he has not been able to return to the office and his duties have been handed over to Deputy Minister Major-General Toe Yi.
