Mytel showroom in Dawei blown up by guerrilla group

Local residents of Dawei say a Mytel showroom owned by the military was attacked with explosives and destroyed on 21 April at 2:00 p.m.

The showroom on Arzarni Road, Ka Yat Pyin Ward, Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region, was attacked with explosives and destroyed by Guerrilla Force (Dawei), according to a statement by the group. The resistance group reported that they had seized two office laptops and 23 lakhs in Kyat from the attack on the showroom.

According to the report, some of the money will be used to buy more arms and the other half will be donated to the organizations that are assisting the internally displaced persons (IDPs). The two laptops will also be distributed to revolutionary forces that need them.

The attack was said to be in response to the brutality exhibited by the military in the wake of the coup. Guerrilla Force (Dawei) has warned the Mytel staff not to work for the company following the attacks. If they are found working for the company, there will be retaliation.

“We attacked Mytel because the company is owned by the military and making profits for the military. We want to shut down all the Mytel operations in Dawei district and we also want to warn Mytel staff, who are slaving for the military and betraying the people and the country," a spokesperson from the group said.
