Nearly 1,000 prisoners receive COVID-19 jabs – State media

A total of 970 inmates in Insein prison in Yangon and at a jail in Nay Pyi Taw were vaccinated, according to state media.

610 prisoners in Insein prisoners got vaccinated, in addition to 360 inmates in the jail at Nay Pyi Taw, a report on the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services website said.

The vaccination programme was conducted after riots recently broke out in some Myanmar prisons calling for better Covid -19 containment measures and healthcare services for inmates.

The junta also confirmed all the prisoners eligible for the vaccination will receive the jab as there are 2,500 persons, out of over 9,000, registered for inoculation in Insein prison alone
