Nearly 30 soldiers killed in three days of fighting in Tanintharyi’s Dawei District

Nearly 30 junta soldiers, including a captain, were killed and many others were injured during three consecutive days of fighting in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei Township, according to local People’s Defence Forces (PDFs).

According to a statement from one of the PDFs involved, the Khalathitnat local Defence Force, a combined force of PDF groups fought with the junta army on the Dawei to Hteekhee Road from 1 to 3 September.

A member of the Eastern Defense Force (EDF), another of the groups involved in the fighting, said: “Both sides exchanged gunfire. Heavy artillery was employed by the Military Council army. The local defense forces retreated to safety.”

The local defence forces involved in the fighting were the Dawei Defense Team (DDT), the Eastern Defense Force (EDF), the Khalathitnat Local Defense Force and the Dawei Guerilla Revolutionary Force (DGRF).
