Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Planning and Administrative Department Director General Aung Soe Win told Mizzima that nearly 70% of eligible Myanmar expatriate voters cast their absentee ballots at 45 Myanmar embassies and consul general offices across the world.

Over 120,000 Myanmar expats registered with Form (15) of Union Election Commission (UEC) for 2020 general elections and out of which over 70,000 cast their absentee ballots but in 2015 general elections just over 22,000 cast their absentee ballots at Myanmar foreign missions, DG Aung Soe Win said.

The embassies issued statements which say that for the 2020 general elections, over 7,800 voters or 80% of eligible voters cast their absentee ballots in South Korea, nearly 30,000 voters or 89% of total eligible voters cast their ballots in Singapore, over 5,900 voters or 72.72% of total voters cast their ballots in Japan. In UAE where there is no Myanmar embassy, over 500 Myanmar voters reportedly cast their ballots at a hotel arranged by the foreign ministry, and it is over 85% of registered absentee voters.
