New Mon State Party meets with Min Aung Hlaing

The New Mon State Party (NMSP) Vice-Chairman, Nai Aung Min, met with the chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to discuss peace issues in Napyidaw on 23 May.

At the meeting the NMSP urged Min Aung Hlaing to draft a federal constitution and to build a federal union, according to the NMSP spokesperson Nai Aung Min.

“We discussed exercising a multiparty democracy in accordance with the people’s wishes, building a Union based on democracy and federalism and an improvement in the standard of educational qualifications throughout the country.

At the meeting Min Aung Hlaing talked about the reason for the coup and Myanmar’s current political situation and both sides had a frank exchange of views on peace issues and the development of the Union.

The meeting was part of a series of 10 meetings that Min Aung Hlaing is having with different ethnic armed organisations (EAOs) to discuss a federal union.

The Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) met with Min Aung Hlaing on 20 May.

Representatives from the eight other EAOs will be having individual meetings with Min Auing Hlaing in the near future.
