National Unity Government [NUG] Acting President Duwa Lashi La issued a statement today expressing deep sorrow and strong condemnation of the junta’s airstrike on Pazigyi Village, Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region.

According to sources in the Kantbalu area, more than 100 people were killed during an air strike carried out by the Myanmar junta in Pazigyi Village, located in Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region today.

In the statement, the Acting President said, “Along with the families of those who lost their lives, we are all deeply affected and saddened. The terrorist Military Council has revealed its true colours once again and committed yet another heinous war crime.”

“We are striving every day to put an end to these atrocities permanently.  I would like to tell the people that we will continue to make more efforts.”

Similarly, the NUG’s Ministry of Defense issued a statement saying that the airstrikes resulted in the loss of scores of innocent civilians, including children and pregnant women, and injured many more.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives and those who are wounded. We express our deepest sorrow and share the great pain felt by the families affected by this tragedy," said the Ministry of Defense of the NUG.

The airstrike by the terrorist military junta is a clear example of their indiscriminate use of extreme force against innocent civilians, constituting a war crime, said the Ministry of Defense of the NUG, which strongly condemned all junta terrorist acts committed against the people of Myanmar, including today's airstrike, and reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice for the victims.

“The cycle of military coups in Myanmar must come to an end, and the military dictatorship must be eradicated once and for all for the people of Myanmar to establish a stable and peaceful society and work towards the welfare of all. We remain committed to this goal and assure the public that the losses suffered by our citizens will never be in vain,” said the Ministry of Defense of the NUG.

NUG spokesperson Nay Phone Latt told Mizzima that they are providing medical treatment to those injured in the airstrike carried out by the junta.

"We are working to treat the injured as soon as possible,” he said.

According to a source, the villagers had gathered in the village to attend the opening ceremony of the anti-junta Township People's Administration office. However, before the ceremony could begin, the junta launched the airstrike.
