NUG minister calls on EU to take effective action against Myanmar military

The Union Minister for Human Rights of Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG) Aung Myo Min held meetings with senior members of the European Parliament on 25 and 26 September.

Aung Myo Min talked about the human rights situation in Myanmar, and the actions of the NUG with the Vice President of the EU Parliament Ms Heidi Hautala, her office members, MP Mr. Vincze Lora’nt and other parliamentarians on 25 September.

He also explained the worsening situation on a political, diplomatic, administrative, economic and financial level under the military regime, and called for stronger action to prevent aviation fuel being sent to the military and the possibility of delivering cross-border humanitarian assistance.

At the meeting with Bernard Guetta, the Vice Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the European Parliament, on 26 September, the minister explained his government’s work on human rights, administration, the judiciary and international relations.

They also exchanged views on the effective implementation of the EU parliament’s resolution on Myanmar and on taking action against the military concerning its international crimes.

During the meeting with Eamon Gilmore, the EU rights envoy, on 26 September, the NUG minister presented the human rights situation of Myanmar and the efforts of the NUG.

The minister also discussed possible access to humanitarian assistance related to Myanmar’s Spring Revolution, their views on human rights and labour rights, and the works of the UN and ASEAN.
