One villager shot dead and one injured in Magwe’s Seik Phyu Township

A villager was killed and another one wounded following series of gunshots fired by Military Council troops in the village of Kazonma village in Seik Phyu Township, Magwe region on 25 May at around 9.30pm, according to a local resident.

A villager from Kazonma village said: 'One farmer from Kazonma village was shot dead without question by the Military Council while they were patrolling the village area and another villager got wounded.”

A relative who attended the victim's funeral said that a villager who died with a gunshot was identified as Naing Lin, and his body was discarded near Kazonma village cemetery. The cremation took place on 26 May.

The Military Council did not issue a statement that they were responsible and claim the local People's Defense Forces (PDF) carried out the crime.

The relative who attended the victim's funeral also said that the injured person is Myo Min Aung who is currently being treated at Magwe General Hospital, but he is in critical condition.

Kazonma village is located between four battalions of the Military Council. In addition, there is a police station in Kazonma village, so the villagers seem to be living quietly under their control, according to locals.

Similar incidents of shooting with no apparent reason by junta troops have taken place in nearby villages in Seik Phyu Township, Magwe region according to local sources.
