PDF attacks convoy on day Myanmar junta’s deputy chief Soe Win arrives in Taunggyi

Local resistance group SYM UGPDF said that they ambushed a junta convoy on a road in Taunggyi, southern Shan State, where the junta’s deputy chief Vice Senior General Soe Win planned to travel, killing two policemen and injuring two other traffic police, according to a statement dated 26 June.

The group launched the ambush at around 1:25 p.m. on 24 June, according to the statement.

The resistance group’s initial intention was to attack the convoy of Vice Senior General Soe Win who arrived in Taunggyi on that day. Their bomb exploded at a traffic light just a moment before Soe Win’s convoy arrived, according to the group’s statement.

"It was learnt that two whiteheads (traffic policemen) were seriously injured in our mission. A police sergeant and another policeman were killed, according to sources close to the military,” said a resistance fighter from the group.

The SYM UGPDF said they would continue to occasionally carry out ambush missions in the future, and urged the general public to stay away from the junta’s army.
