PDF destroys machinery of illegal logging company in Sagaing’s Htee Chaik township

The machinery belonging to Myat Noe Thu Company, which is located in Ngapi Chaung village, Htee Chaik Township, Sagaing Division was set on fire, according to a leader of the Htee Phyu People's Defense Force (HPDF).

The company owns three club trucks, a crane, a crane-loaded tanker and two ten-wheeler trucks used for logging. They were destroyed at 1 PM on December 26.

“That company has been producing tens of thousands of tons of timber since the coup. They cannot be warned in advance. If we warned in advance, they would inform the junta soldiers for sure. We did not want to do it. We know that there are thousands of tons of timber to be produced. As a result, machinery was set on fire,” a leader of the Htee Phyu People's Defense Force (HPDF) said.

During the demolition, the phones of the person in charge and staff were confiscated.

Myat Noe Thu Company is based in Ngapi Chaung village and has been extracting large quantities of logs since the era of the Thein Sein government. Logging was banned under the National League for Democracy-led government but it is was back in operation after the coup, according to the leader of HPDF.
