A Mytel phone tower was set on fire and destroyed in Ka Mar Ka Lu Village, in Yangon Region’s Khayan Township, at 1:45 a.m on 17 April, according to the Khayan People’s Defence Force (PDF).

“We couldn’t destroy the tower itself because it is in Ka Mar Ka Lu monastery which is very close to [residential] neighbourhoods, so we set the control box on fire and destroyed it”, said a Khayan PDF
official.

Khayan PDF said that three telecoms towers in the area, including this one, have been put out of action and it threatened to destroy other military-related business interests in the future.

The group also claims to have killed 10 junta soldiers in fighting on 13 April.
