Political prisoners being held in Yangon’s Insein Prison entered their tenth day of hunger strike yesterday, according to a report by DVB.

Insein, on the outskirts of Yangon is Myanmar’s most infamous prison. Built by the British in 1887 it has held many political prisoners including people like 88 Generation leader Min Kho Naing and the poet Zarganar in brutally oppressive squalid conditions. Since the 2021 coup, thousands more prisoners of conscience have been detained there.

Over the last year, a number of prisoners have protested their incarceration and also the conditions at the prison.
