Pro military militia leader, Ye Myint and his son-in-law Kyaw Swa were shot and killed in the Inle region on 9 May by the urban guerilla group Assassin For Justice (AFJ), according to a statement by the group.

They were shot at around 6 a.m. while they were preparing to open their shop in Than Taung Market, in Nyaungshwe Township. Both died on the spot.

“We carried out the attack on the morning of 9 May. We failed in our first attempt [to kill them] on 3 May because they had gone to a meeting at Eastern Command. They were shot dead and we fired one shot into the air. We didn’t do that to threaten people. We had to fire the gun into the air because we were having difficulty escaping, so we sincerely apologise to the people”, said a representative from AFJ.

According to the group the two victims were from Ywama Kalay Nge Ward in Nyaungshwe Township and both of them were Military Council informers. Ye Myint was also a former Military Council member.
