On 8 August, the 34th anniversary of the 8888 pro-democracy uprising, a protest calling for the removal of the Myanmar military junta and support for the Kachin Liberation Army (KIA), People’s Defense Force (PDF), and National Unity Government (NUG) took place in Kachin's Hpakan Township.

Hundreds of protesters marched and staged a boycott, using slogans such as “KIA, PDF may win every battle”, “NUG government is our government,” and “The fascist army must be destroyed”.

The protesters called for a democracy and federal union for Myanmar, and that all arrested national leaders and citizens should be freed.

“The Spring Revolution must succeed,” they shouted.
