Two Indian nationals were shot and killed by the junta aligned Pyu Saw Htee militia in Sagaing Region's Tamu Township on 5 July, according to locals.

The incident happened in Tamu Town's Saw Bwar Ward, close to close to the No. (4) Basic Education High School where Pyu Saw Htee militia were stationed, at around 2:00 p.m.

'They were on the way back from attending a friend's birthday in Tamu Town [on a motorcycle] when the Pyu Saw Htee. militia stationed at No. (4) Basic Education High School tried to stop them. But, they didn' stop so they were chased Pyu Saw Htee militia on two motorcycles who shot at them. It still isn't clear why they [the two Indian men] didn't stop. Maybe they didn't hear the order to stop or didn't understand the language', a local resident who wanted to remain anonymous said to Mizzima.

The Indian media identified the dead men as P. Mohan aged 28 and Miyarnar aged 35. They were from the Indian border town of Moreh, just across the border from Tamu Township.

The residents of Moreh were outraged by the killings and a crowd of them went to the police station in Moreh demanding that the culprits be identified and the bodies returned to India, according to Indian media.

Myanmar cross-border traders and citizens who were in Moreh have returned to Myanmar and will not go back because they fear reprisals, according to people on the Myanmar side of the border.

Currently, the men's bodies are being held at a hospital in Tamu Township, but the junta is planning to burn them to destroy any evidence, according to a Local from Tamu Township.
