Revolutionary Eid celebrated in online interfaith event

An online interfaith Revolutionary Eid ceremony was held by the Myanmar Muslim Revolution Force (MMRF) on the afternoon of 22 April.

It was a celebration Eid al Fitr, the Muslim Festival to mark the end of Ramadan. Non-Muslim revolutionary groups were invited to and attended the event. This year, Ramadan was held from 21 April to 22 April.

Ro Thin Thin Hlaing, an MMRF Central Committee member, said of the revolutionary Eid ceremony: “Actually, the event should [normally] be held on-site. We, who are fellow participants in this revolution are celebrating this revolution to bring about a federal country. We organised this event to tell each other how we can support ourselves.”

Explaining the online event, Ro Thin Thin Hlaing added: “Even if we have different faiths, we have a common objective. We staged the Revolutionary Eid event with different revolutionary forces because we are all working toward the same objective and want to support one another as we advance toward a new federal democracy free from sectarianism.”

MMRF was founded in May 2022 to advocate for minority rights in the new federal democratic union after the revolution. It is an organisation that, in addition to striving for full equality and civil rights, collaborates with other revolutionary forces to entirely abolish the military dictatorship from Myanmar.

Amongst the resistance groups whose representatives attended the Revolutionary Eid ceremony were delegations from: the Octopus (People's Assistance Youth Organisation), the Yangon Drone, the Democratic Youth Council (Myanmar), the Yangon Revolution Force (YRF), the Anti-Junta Alliance Yangon (AJAY), the Blood Money Campaign (BMC), the General Strike Committee of Nationalities (GSCN), the General Strike Coordination Body (GSCB), the Universities of Computer Studies Yangon – Students Union (UCSYSU) and the New People's Democratic Party, Minority Affair Institute (MAI).
