Rockets fired at Ma-U checkpoint in Monywa

The Monywa Fighter Group fired two rockets from a free flight rocket launcher at the Military Council’s Ma-U checkpoint in Sagaing Region’s Monywa Town on 7 May, according to a statement made by the group on 8 May.

The attack, carried out in collaboration with Golden Eagle Force Monywa took place at 7.45 p.m. The rockets scored direct hits on the junta checkpoint, but the number of casualties from the attack is still unknown.

“We fired with heavy weapon because the Military troops were firing at the Monywa Industrial Zone and also extorting money from the people”, said Ko Zarni, the leader of Monywa Fighter Group to Mizzima.

After the shooting, the junta fired heavy artillery into nearby villages.

Ma-U checkpoint has a bad reputation for extorting money from travellers.

Prior to the attack, on 7 May, junta troops had fired about 30 shots in Monywa Industrial zone for no reason. There are currently no details as to the damage and casualties caused by their shooting.
