Sagaing PDF designs long-distance rocket launcher for fight against Myanmar junta

A spokesperson for the Sagaing-based Done Pyan People’s Defence Force (PDF) told Mizzima that they have successfully produced an improvised Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) that can effectively fire a series of shots at a distance of 1,200 metres.

The home-made rocket launcher is the third in a series the Done Pyan PDF has designed and can fire multiple or single rockets. This latest version was finished on 9 August.

"We only have heavy weapons to rely on to attack junta forces. We do not have enough weapons so we recreated one for battles. The long-range rocket is no danger for our troops. So, we produce more heavy weapons. We have produced three long-range rockets," Ko Done Pyan from Done Pyan PDF told Mizzima on 10 August.

Using an electric ignition system, the missile launcher can be attached to a vehicle.

According to one of the PDF fighters, these self-made weapons can be made quickly and due to the range, potential PDF casualties can be reduced when fighting with the junta forces.
