Seven Myanmar junta soldiers killed in Sagaing’s Ye-U Township

A People’s Defence Force in Sagaing’s Ye-U Township attacked a contingent of Myanmar junta troops on January 20, killing seven and injuring others.

A local PDF based in Ye-U Township, Sagaing Region, detonated three landmines when the 40 infantry approached Chan Thar Ywa Railway, a mile west of Ye-U township, according to an officer of the Sky Falcon Force.

The joint forces of Pyu Saw Htee and the junta’s troops left Kone Tan village in Ye-U Township and were attacked by the local defense force when they arrived at Chan Thar village on January 20 at around 1 pm, killing at least seven junta soldiers and injuring many others.

“They are marching along the railway. We were well prepared and waited for them. When they arrived at our target point, we detonated the landmines. I found that seven junta soldiers were killed and many others were injured,” the officer of the Sky Falcon Force told Mizzima.

After the landmine attack, the military forces opened fire and they left the dead bodies and then continued to Marogone village.

More than 1,000 locals from Chan Thar, Ywar Thit, Kone Thar and Marogone villages located west of Ye-U Township fled due to the influx of junta troops.

In Sagaing Region, Military Council troops are deployed in many areas and local guerrillas are not involved in direct confrontation but in detonating landmines, the officer added.
