Some political parties including Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) protested by not signing the Election Code of Conduct (COC) booklet for political parties and election candidates as the COC did not meet their demand of banning use of portraits of statesmen including Bogyoke Aung San.
USDP spokesman Dr. Nanda Hla Myint said, “Bogyoke Aung San represents the entire country and people. He is also the founding father of Myanmar and national hero of independence movement. The majority of political parties assume that use of the portrait of Bogyoke Aung San in election campaigns by a single party will be unfair for other parties. Our party also agrees.”
The signing Ceremony of Election Code of Conduct for political parties and candidates was held by Union Election Commission (UEC) and it was attended by 83 political parties. Fifteen political parties refused to sign on it.
