Singapore has welcomed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)’s adoption of its first resolution on the situation in Myanmar on 21 December 2022, according to the country’s foreign minister.

The resolution underscores the UNSC’s support for the implementation of ASEAN’s Five Point Consensus, and reflects the high level of attention and importance that the UNSC attaches to the issue, he writes.

“Singapore remains deeply concerned about the deteriorating situation in Myanmar and will continue to work closely with the UN, ASEAN and other stakeholders to facilitate a peaceful resolution through dialogue among all parties in Myanmar. Life is precious – and peace is essential.”

Singapore has been working with other ASEAN member countries to try to find a resolution to the crisis in Myanmar prompted by the military coup in February 2021, and the ongoing and worsening civil war.
