The Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) has lodged complaints to Shan State Election Commission over vote rigging and electoral malpractices which took place in some polling stations in Kutkai Township, northern Shan State.

SNLD party House of Nationalities (upper house) candidate Maw Tun Aung said that while they were visiting polling stations in Kutkai Township, SNLD party candidates found voting by underage voters, voting for actual voters by other persons, and double voting with same voting slips.

“These electoral irregularities and malpractices occurred in our presence. I myself found two such persons and surrendered them to the polling station chief and Union Election Commission (UEC). And then I called police and township administrators about these malpractices.” candidate Maw Tun Aung said.

“The UEC said that they would take action against such cases in accordance with the law but they have not taken action against them until now,” he added.
