Members of the junta-affiliated Soon Ye militia and the Military Affairs Security Force (SAF) arrested, shot and killed two people in Maungmakan Village, in Launglon Township, in Tanintharyi Region's Dawei District.

The shootings happened on the morning of 25 July, according to the Launglon Township Strike Committee and local residents.

The two victims were named by local residents as U Zaw Win and Daw Pwar. They said they were quiet people.

One local said: "They arrested two villagers while they were sleeping at night and shot them dead. There were cards with Kite symbols thrown down next to the bodies."

Kite in Burmese is Soon Ye. In Launglon Township there is a Soon Ye militia that is part of the junta-affiliated Pyu Saw Htee militia.

On 28 April 2022, Soon Ye members killed three villagers in their homes in Launglon's Pandale Village and on 3 May they killed a man on the road between Dawei and Launglon. On 2 May 2022, Soon Ye also posted on Facebook that it would harm anti-coup protesters' family members if they did not stop their activities, according to Radio Free Asia (RFA).

Soon Ye and SAF claimed that they had shot the victims because they were providing financial and other forms of support to people's defence forces (PDFs). After killing the victims, they ransacked their houses and stole belongings including jewellery and a car.

Previously, between 16 June and 25 July, junta forces killed four men and five women and burned a house down in Launglon Township, according to the People's Administration Group of Launglon Township.
