Spring Revolution Daily News for 1 April 2023 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • On the two-year anniversary of the Federal Democracy Charter on Friday, Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) sent a statement. 
  • According to the NUG, they have allocated 1.4 million USD for the defence sector and a 800,000 USD budget for counter air attacks. 
  • In the event on the two-year anniversary of the Federal Democracy Charter, the Acting President of the NUG stated that even amidst limitations, the National Unity Consultative Council managed to systematically discuss, approve and adopt the Charter and it was a success. 
  • Acting President of the NUG claimed that it is necessary to clearly understand the Spring Revolution did not emerge just for the interest of a group of people. 
  • The People’s Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and Chin State People’s Police Force under the Interim Chin National Consultative Council have been established mostly with the CDM police who stand by the public in the Spring Revolution. 
  • In Thantlang Township of Chin State, there were a large number of casualties among civilians including women and two children in the junta’s air strike on Kwapho Village. Regarding it, the Interim Chin National Consultative Council stated that it was another highlight for the junta’s lack of hesitation to conduct violence against the public. 
  • The Union Prime Minister of the NUG stated that the public’s revolution spirit against the military dictatorship can be seen through their sacrifices and sharing. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region, an alliance of PDFs attacked Kan Police Station. Reportedly, the military junta had a great loss and made counter attacks with the support of air strikes. 
  • Burmese Students’ Union sent a congratulatory statement on the two-year anniversary of the formation of Yangon-based University Students’ Union. 
  • In Yangon Region, Ma Su Thun Paing, a member of No. (2) Mayangone High School Students’ Union, was sentenced to 3 years in prison. 
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe marched against the military dictatorship on Thursday. 
  • In Sagaing Township, local PDFs attacked the junta army on their way into Ponna Yarkway Village on Thursday morning. 
  • On Friday, a rally of Shwe Nwe Thwe continued their anti-junta march. 
  • In Thantlang Township of Chin State, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing on Kwapho Village, killing many people. Reportedly, the burials of those killed were held on Thursday. 
  • In Matupi Township, there has been military tension between the alliance of Chin Forces and the junta armed forces. According to local people’s administration, the IDPs are badly in need of medicines. 
  • In Kyauktaw Township of Rakhine State, the military junta instructed about 3500 people from 10 IDP camps to return home starting from Thursday. They also ordered the complete demolishing of 3 IDP camps. 
  • In Ywangan Township of Danu Self-Administered Region in Shan South, 9 people from Kyaukkubyin Village had been arrested by the junta army on 23 March. Reportedly, one of them lost their life. 
  • On Friday, a rally of monks conducted an anti-junta movement. 
  • In Thabaitgyin Township of Mandalay Region, there was an attack on two military cars on their way back after providing security services for vehicles carrying jade. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers including officers died. 
  • In Muse Township of Shan State, two members of the junta’s militia were shot dead while they were taking charge of the gate at Thein Than Chi Bus Terminal. 
  • The US Foreign Minister condemned the junta’s abolishment of 40 political parties including the National League for Democracy (NLD). 
  • In Kayah State with battles almost daily, the IDPs have had to struggle for their basic needs. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations 

  • On the border of Pekone Township and Pin Laung Township in Shan State, 200 junta soldiers died and no less than 100 others were injured in local battles starting on 24 February. Reportedly, their weapons were also confiscated. 
  • There has been heavy fighting between the junta army and the alliance of Karenni Forces. On 19 March, a member of Mobye PDF lost his life. 
  • In Dimawso Township, there was a battle between Karenni Forces and the junta army near Dawlyaku Village. According to the KNDF, 15 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Thatone Township of Mon State, the junta army shot mortars into Taungkalay Village. According to Karen National Union (KNU), 6 people including children aged 5 were injured. 
  • In Kyaikto Township, the junta army fired heavy artillery into Meyonelay Village. Reportedly, two people lost their lives. 
  • In Bawlake Township, there was a PDF attack on the junta’s strategic point and the location of 122 mortars. 

The Military Council 

  • According to the military junta, General Zaw Hein, the Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Region, was transferred to Yangon Military Region. 
  • Reportedly, the LNG power-generating ship left Thilawa Port in Yangon. 
  • The junta Minister of Information stated that they have been carrying out activities for modern Walking Thingyan, the very first one in Nay Pyi Taw. 
  • According to the junta propaganda leader Zaw Min Tun, rumor has it that foreign banks do not accept the incoming and outgoing money from Myanmar. 
  • According to the spokesperson of the junta Rakhine State Government, deep wells will be dug in the townships with shortage of water. 
  • In March, the sale of the junta Aungbale Lottery was over 5200 million MMK. Compared to last month, it increased by over 500 million MMK. 

Summary on 31 March 

  • Recently, the junta army troops and camps have been controlled frequently. In other words, the revolution has been in great momentum. On the other hand, the PDFs have also lost some members. 
  • The national development has been off track due to the coup. The LNG power supply ship, a program of the public’s government, left the country. Consequently, the military junta had to announce that there would be complete power outage in Yangon in the evenings, in addition to other interruptions in the power supply. The thirst of power by Min Aung Hlaing has brought darkness not only to the country but also to the future of the people.
